Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has threatened tough legal action against truck operators using its logo without authorization, warning that such acts have continued to embarrass and damage the company’s reputation.
Despite several warnings, the company said some unaffiliated truckers still adorn their vehicles with Dangote’s logo for personal gain or other undisclosed purposes. It noted that some of these vehicles have been linked to accidents and incidents wrongly blamed on the group.
To curb the trend, Dangote said it will step up surveillance in collaboration with security agencies and law enforcement while prosecuting offenders to protect its brand identity.
“We have repeatedly cautioned truckers to refrain from using our logo on unauthorised vehicles. Moving forward, we will increase vigilance and take decisive legal action against misuse of our brand identity, particularly concerning vehicles unaffiliated with the Dangote Group,” the company stated.
The company also expressed concern over the spread of false information, especially the misattribution of road accidents to its fleet. It urged the public and media to always verify facts before dissemination and avoid being misled by those seeking to exploit tragedies for malicious or financial purposes.
Dangote runs one of Africa’s largest commercial fleets, with over 12,000 trucks in Nigeria, including more than 3,000 operated by third-party contractors. At least 6,000 of its vehicles are on the road daily, supporting a vast logistics network and generating more than 36,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“We maintain close cooperation with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other regulatory bodies to standardise, monitor, train, and improve our operational practices. Continuous internal audits enable us to identify gaps, adopt global best practices, and strengthen compliance across our fleet,” the company added.
