The Catholic Television of Nigeria (CTV) says its daily audience has increased by more than 300 per cent, reaching about eight million viewers across Africa, one year after joining GOtv Channel 115.
The Executive Director of CTV, Very Rev. Fr Patrick Alumuku, disclosed this in Abuja during a news conference marking the station’s 15th anniversary and its first year on the GOtv platform on Monday.
Alumuku said the station was established in 2010 through the vision of the then Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan. He noted that CTV has remained committed to professionalism, balanced reporting, and spiritual values in its broadcasting.
“On March 13, 2025, the station migrated from the Trefoil NigComSat free-to-air platform to GOtv Channel 115. This move has greatly improved accessibility and affordability of Catholic content for the average Nigerian audience and expanded its reach across the African region,” he said.
The Assistant Director of Communications, Rev. Fr Kenneth Agwu, described the station’s 15-year journey as worthwhile and commendable despite the high operational costs and challenges facing the electronic media sector in Nigeria.
The Deputy Director of Administration, Rev. Fr Victor Ogunyemi, said CTV has consistently engaged in balanced media apostolate, addressing issues of insecurity, family life, and other contemporary societal challenges in Nigeria through responsible journalism.
The Chairperson of the National Planning Committee, Dr Princess Frank-Chukwuani, expressed optimism that CTV would soon compete favourably in national broadcasting, reaching a broader audience and playing a greater role in the Nigerian media landscape.
The Publicity Sub-Committee Chairman, Mr Henry Adaba, described CTV as a tool for mindset reorientation and promoting unity in an era marked by religious intolerance and social divisions.
Adaba said viewers on Channel 115 enjoy short, impactful programmes that help reset mindsets, encouraging families to watch regularly for spiritual growth and positive value formation in households.
Management announced that the 15th anniversary celebration and awards ceremony will hold on April 30, 2026, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Event Centre, Maitama, Abuja. Stakeholders and partners are invited to attend.
