[BREAKING] Zulum probes Alau Dam collapse, names 26-member committee [LIST]

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has constituted a committee to examine and ascertain the cause of the collapse of Alau Dam. The dam collapsed last month resulting in the flooding of Maiduguri Metropolis and its surrounding local government areas.

The severe flooding displaced nearly 2 million people, led to deaths and destroyed several properties.

The dam was constructed between 1984 and 1986 to provide water for irrigation and domestic use for the inhabitants of Maiduguri and its environs.

The secretary to the Borno State Government, Bukar Tijani, in a statement on Friday night, announced the committee to comprise the following persons:

  1. Engr. Abba Garba – Chairman
  2. Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources – Co-Chairman
  3. Representative of Flood Control Committee – Member
  4. Representative of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) – Member
  5. Rep. of Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN) – Member
  6. Representative of Nigerian Institute of Surveyors – Member
  7. Representative of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners – Member
  8. Representative of the University of Maiduguri – Member
  9. Special Adviser to His Excellency on Security – Member
  10. Engr. Mohammed Sanda – Member
  11. Engr. Babagana Moruma – Member
  12. Engr. Tahiru Barde Mshelia – Member
  13. Engr. Kefas Jaduwa – Member
  14. Surveyor John Nuhu – Member
  15. Representative of Nigerian Army – Member
  16. Representative of Nigeria Police Force, Borno State Command – Member
  17. Representative of Nigerian Security & Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) – Member
  18. Representative of Department of State Services (DSS) – Member
  19. Rep. of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) – Member

  27. The statement added that the committee would be inaugurated on Saturday at 2:00 pm in the council chamber of the government house.
