The Nasarawa State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has signed a N10 billion contract with Bauhaus Global/ICCO and GET Engineering.
The agreement aims to address severe gully erosion issues in Lafia, Doma, and Toto local government areas.
At a recent press briefing, the state’s ACReSAL project coordinator, Dr. Napoleon Elias-Gyobe detailed the contract’s division into two lots.
Lot 1, allocated over N6 billion, will target erosion in Lafia and Doma LGAs, while Lot 2, with a contract sum of over N3.5 billion, will focus on remedial works in Toto LGA.
Dr. Elias-Gyobe assured that compensation measures are in place for those whose properties may be impacted by the project.
He confirmed that residents around the Kilenma axis of Lafia have already been compensated, with profiling underway for affected households in Shinge and Toto.
“We are actively engaging stakeholders and ensuring a robust resettlement action plan,” Dr. Elias-Gyobe stated.
He added that the projects are set to roll out over distinct timelines—12 months for the first project and 18 months for the second—demonstrating a commitment to both immediate and long-term climate resilience strategies.
The initiative has garnered high-level support, with Muhammad Garba-Rosha, Chairman of the project’s steering committee and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, praising Governor Abdullahi Sule for his leadership.
Garba-Rosha added that the ACReSAL project not only mitigates flood risks across the affected LGAs but also promises to boost irrigation farming, thereby enhancing the state’s agricultural prospects.
