The Federal Controller of Works in Abia, Mr. Chidi Uwaeziozi, says six out of 13 federal projects in the state are ongoing, with contractors on site.
He said the remaining seven projects were stalled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Uwaeziozi stated this in Aba on Sunday while inspecting the ongoing Abia Tower–Alaoji stretch of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
He said the 56.1-kilometre Enugu-bound lane of the expressway, from Abia Tower to Osisioma Flyover, had been completed.
“The Umuahia Tower to Osisioma Flyover has two carriageways, while the Osisioma Flyover through to Alaoji Road has four lanes.
“This is to enable town service vehicles to operate, while travellers moving from one state to another can use the main carriageway without interruption.
“The main carriageway on the Port Harcourt-bound lane has been completed, leaving only the wearing course,” he said.
The controller said what remained was the completion of the Umuahia–Aba stretch of the expressway.
“We have about 550 metres completed up to the stone-base level.
“Upon delivery, the aesthetics of the road will improve and travel time will be reduced,” he said.
Uwaeziozi said the construction work is funded by the Federal Government.
He noted that the road project is about 93 per cent completed despite challenges posed by rainfall.
According to him, the contractor adopted a concrete pavement design to enhance the road’s load-bearing capacity.
He commended the contractors for the quality of work being delivered.
