The Niger State Government plans to utilize the Gurara Waterfalls to generate electricity, a move aimed at boosting energy supply and promoting local development.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago revealed this initiative during a stakeholders’ meeting in Gawu Babangida, the headquarters of Gurara Local Government Area, as part of his statewide projects monitoring tour.

The governor explained that the project would position Gurara as one of the electricity-generating regions in the state, ensuring the local community benefits from the initiative.

Governor Bago emphasized Gurara’s priority status, citing its untapped potential. He assured residents that his administration is committed to fully leveraging these resources for the area’s development.

Projects planned for Gurara include the construction of a 5-kilometer township road in Izom, a road linking Izom to Gwagwalada, the development of the Gurara Games Resort, the establishment of a modern trailer park worth N120 million, the provision of potable water through partnerships, and creation of a green energy park under a tripartite arrangement.

The governor also commended Senator Mohammed Sani Musa of the Niger East Senatorial District for his dedication to delivering impactful projects, including plans for a mini-stadium, a 50-bed healthcare facility, and a skills acquisition center.

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa expressed gratitude for Governor Bago’s leadership, describing him as a visionary who prioritizes the welfare of the people. He assured the public that Gurara would soon witness significant transformations, with completed road projects and solar-powered streetlights enhancing the area.

The Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Afiniki Dauda, and Gurara Local Government Council Chairman, Abdul-Halim Abubakar, praised the governor for his visit and the meaningful projects being implemented in their communities.

Elder statesman and former Commissioner for Water Resources, Alh. Abubakar Azozo, appealed to the governor to address critical infrastructural needs, including the construction of the Wakpe-Leifu-Boku and Dikko-Kabo-Shako roads, the building of bridges in key communities, and the completion of the nearly finished Izom-Gawu-Lambata road project, initiated during the late Governor Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure’s tenure, currently 90% complete.

During his visit, Governor Bago also inaugurated a reactivated transformer in Lambata, which had been vandalized four years ago. He urged the community to protect public infrastructure to ensure sustainable development.

This ambitious agenda underscores the governor’s dedication to fostering development, harnessing local resources, and delivering impactful projects to uplift Niger State.
