The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) LL.B Class of 1978 on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024, presented a solar power system to the university to support the Faculty of Law, providing electricity to the theatre halls and staff offices. The solar system, which costs N11 million, includes a 10KVA inverter, 6.6KW solar panels, and a 30KW lithium battery backup package.

During the brief but vibrant ceremony, Prof. Auwalu Hamisu Yadudu, Deputy President of the ABU LL.B Class of 1978, handed over the project to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala. Yadudu, who represented the Class President, Prof. Momodu Kassim Momodu, explained that members of the class generously contributed to fund and complete the project within a short period.

“On behalf of all our members, we wish to express our deep gratitude to the Faculty of Law, ABU, Zaria, from which we all owe our modest accomplishments in life. It is in appreciation of this that we are making this token contribution to give back to the institution,” said Yadudu.

He further expressed hope that the solar system would alleviate the challenges caused by recurrent power outages, providing an enabling and conducive environment for students learning at the Faculty.

Yadudu nostalgically recalled that their LL.B Year 1 class began in October 1975 with 129 students, but sadly, the class has since lost 58 members, including the late Justice Tanimu Zailani, former Chief Judge of Kaduna State.

The class extended their gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, for his active participation during their recent reunion and for commissioning the project. They also thanked the Dean of the Faculty of Law and his team for their facilitation and praised Hamisu Abubakar of Shoppers Care Enterprises for executing the project with professionalism and efficiency.

In commissioning the project at the Faculty of Law’s Kongo Campus, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, expressed the university’s profound gratitude to the Class of 1978. He noted that the project comes at a crucial time when the power supply has been a significant challenge and encouraged other alumni classes to follow suit in supporting the university.

Adamu Mamman Kontagora, President of the ABU Alumni Association Worldwide, delivered a goodwill message through Dr. Suleiman Balarabe, Chairman of the Zaria Chapter of the Association. He affirmed that alumni are working in collaboration with the university management for the continued progress of the institution.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Salim Bashir Magashi, described the donation as timely, stating that the solar system will enhance the faculty’s operations. He reiterated the university’s deep appreciation for the contribution.

Notable members of the LL.B Class of 1978 in attendance included Danmasanin Zazzau, Falalu Bello Esq.; Prof. Ibrahim Na’iya Sada; Abdullahi Umar Iliyasu Esq.; and Shifa Garba Esq.
