The Sokoto State University on Thursday, matriculated no fewer than 2,219 fresh students for the 2019/2020 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sani Dangoggo, while congratulating the newly admitted students urged them to take their academics seriously and shun all social vices.
According to him, getting admission into the university is not an easy task, especially taking into consideration the number of candidates who applied to study various programmes being offered by the institution.
“It may interest you to note that 6,718 candidates sought admission into this universiy in the current session, out of which only 2,219 were lucky to be admitted.
“Our admission database indicates that 776 students were admitted into the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; 285 into the Faculty of Education and 1,158 into the Faculty of Science.
“However, this category of students is the seventh set admitted and matriculated since the establishment of the university, a clear indication that the institution is waxing steadily,” he said.
Dangoggo stated that despite the global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which ravaged all sectors of human endeavours, the institution had recorded some modest achievements.
He announced that there would be a combined first, second and third convocation of the university scheduled for March 13.
In his address, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Alhaji Bello Suleiman, urged the new students to be of good character and conduct throughout their stay in the institution.
Suleiman, represented by Dr Amamatu Tambuwal, assured that the governing council would continue to work assiduously toward the success of the university.
