The Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun, on Wednesday inducted 74 of its students into the physiotherapy profession.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the students were inducted during the 3rd induction ceremony for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Class of 2025.
The Vice‑Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, urged the inductees to translate the knowledge and training they acquired at the university into saving lives and improving society.
Akindele said that the theme of the induction ceremony, “The Journey to Good Health: From Classroom to the World,” points to the fact that the knowledge and training of the inductees were needed in the healthcare sector of the country.
“The clinical training and knowledge you have acquired will be translated into saving lives and making an impact in the health sector,” he said.
He charged the inductees to carry the values of the university and be good ambassadors of Christ in the health sector.
Prof. Chris Okafor, the keynote speaker from the Department of Physiotherapy, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, gave a historical overview of physiotherapy in Nigeria.
Okafor stated that the profession started as a three‑year diploma programme in 1945 and later transformed into a six‑year Doctor of Physiotherapy.
He told the inductees that there would be challenges and that they must assess themselves, know their strengths and weaknesses, in order to be able to face those challenges.
Okafor also urged the inductees to pursue further knowledge, go abroad to gain more experience, and return to impact the healthcare sector of Nigeria and train others.
Dr Dayo Omotosho, the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, also advised the inductees to be good ambassadors of the university in the corporate world.
Dr Olusegun Ojedoyin, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, urged the inductees to be patriotic and committed to national unity.
Ojedoyin admonished them to remain committed to their profession and field, as they continue to be good ambassadors of the university.
Prof. Ahmad Rufia, the Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTB), administered the “Oath of Induction” after admonishing the inductees to be a shining light and ambassadors of the profession.
