ASHENEWS reports that the Niger Christian Youth Forum (NCYF) has applauded Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for approving the reintroduction of Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) in public schools across Niger State.
Describing the move as bold and timely, the group said it reflects the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and efforts to foster unity among the state’s diverse religious and ethnic communities.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Joshua Ndace, on April 7, the NCYF noted that teaching CRK would help instill moral values, mutual respect, and spiritual growth in students.
“This initiative is a significant step towards fostering moral upbringing, mutual respect, and understanding among the younger generation,” the statement read.
While commending the policy, the youth group urged the state government to take further action by recruiting qualified CRK teachers.
It said many public schools have lacked dedicated teachers for years, a situation that has undermined the teaching of the subject despite its importance.
“To truly achieve the objectives of this policy, it is essential that professional teachers are employed and deployed to effectively teach CRK and nurture the spiritual and moral values of our children,” the group stated.
The NCYF called on the Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders to act swiftly to implement the next phase of the policy.
The group expressed optimism that the Bago-led administration will continue to promote policies that encourage equity, inclusion, and spiritual development.
It also pledged support for initiatives that advance the wellbeing of residents across the state.
