The Lagos State Government has empowered more than 600 undergraduates with technical skills in Software Quality Assurance (SQA) through a three-week, free bootcamp aimed at building a tech-driven workforce.
The programme was initiated by the Office of the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Students’ Union Affairs and Tertiary Education, Mr. Kappo Olawale.
Organised by Korrekt Tech in collaboration with the Ministry of Tertiary Education, the training was held simultaneously at the College of Health Technology, Yaba; Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu; and Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Otto-Ijanikin.
The bootcamp was designed to equip students with practical skills to address real-world tech challenges and prepare them for emerging opportunities in the global technology ecosystem.
Participants were trained on the fundamentals of software testing, static techniques, test analysis and design, and hands-on use of real-world tools, alongside career guidance into the tech industry.
Speaking at the grand finale, the SSA, Mr. Kappo Olawale, said the initiative aligned with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision to build a generation of skilled, creative, and future-ready students.
Olawale described SQA as a vital 21st-century skill that equips graduates to thrive in a technology-driven world while promoting inclusivity as emphasised by the governor.
He noted that technology continues to reshape education and leadership, making the bootcamp crucial for nurturing practical skills and the right mindset for success in the digital economy.
“This administration is committed to giving Lagos students not just a voice but a vision,” he said. “We encourage them to leverage this opportunity to connect leadership with technology-driven innovation.”
Olawale urged participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge by launching digital literacy projects, tech hubs, or mentorship groups across their campuses to drive community impact.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Sule Tolani, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful in sharpening students’ employability, particularly in ICT and tech-driven sectors.
Tolani noted that the training cut across various disciplines, stressing that ICT proficiency is now essential for learning, productivity, and innovation in every profession.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving graduate quality beyond classroom instruction through exposure to practical, industry-relevant programmes such as the SQA bootcamp.
Similarly, Korrekt Tech Founder, Mr. Rudwan Abdulazeez, praised participants for their curiosity and dedication throughout the training, describing their feedback as highly encouraging.
Abdulazeez called on investors to support the initiative for sustainability, explaining that SQA experts play a critical role in identifying and fixing software issues before deployment to prevent costly errors.
“Poorly tested applications have led to financial losses in some sectors, including banking,” he said, noting that SQA professionals are vital to ensuring software reliability in the tech ecosystem.
President of the Students’ Union at LASUSTECH, Mr. David Oluwasegun, commended the programme as a thoughtful and impactful initiative by the SSA’s office to technologically empower Lagos students.
He thanked the state governor and appealed for improved ICT infrastructure across tertiary institutions, particularly the provision of free Wi-Fi access to enhance students’ learning experience.
“We have learnt a lot and are ready to apply it,” Oluwasegun said. “We look forward to more platforms that support continuous learning and project implementation.”
Similarly, Mr. Adegbite Daniel of the LASUED Students’ Executive Council praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s visionary commitment to youth empowerment through technology-focused programmes at the tertiary level.
He said the training encouraged students to think beyond classroom theories and urged organisers to sustain the momentum through follow-up initiatives.
Dr. Ademola Aderogba, Dean of Students’ Affairs at LASUSTECH, Ikorodu, described the programme as impactful, noting that it addressed students’ needs and added value to their knowledge, career growth, and self-actualisation.
“This is an extension of classroom lectures,” Aderogba said. “Practical training, workshops, and seminars like this broaden students’ perspectives, enhance employability, and prepare them for real-world challenges in a technology-driven era.”
