The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in collaboration with the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB), will train 790 Mathematics and Science teachers across the state’s 16 local government areas.
KWSUBEB Chairman, Prof. Shehu Adaramaja, said on Wednesday that the 12-day capacity-building programme, tagged Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE), will run from Sept. 1 to 12, 2025.
He explained that the initiative, approved by Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as part of ongoing education reforms, aims to equip teachers with essential skills to improve classroom performance and strengthen foundational learning.
According to him, the training will cover Core Teacher’s Cycle IV, Local Cycle IV, and Step Training modules, with sessions holding at Bishop Smith and Queen Elizabeth schools in Ilorin, as well as at various Local Government Education Authorities.
Adaramaja added that another 795 teachers will later benefit from training in software development, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continuous investment in teachers’ professional development.
