Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umoh Eno, has inaugurated a-seven man Governing Council for the State-owned University with Senator Udoma Udo Udoma as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council.

The Governor used the opportunity to congratulate Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Etuk, the Oku Ibom Ibibio on his appointment as the Chancellor of the University, as well as Prof. OtoAbasi Akpan as the substantive Vice Chancellor.

Inaugurating the board at Government House Uyo, Governor Eno, commended the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Otobasi Akpan, for purposeful leadership which have earned the institution full accreditation for commencement of a Faculty of Law and other courses.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, the Governor was full of praise for the accreditation of the law faculty of the institution, explaining that the feat was attained due to Prof Akpan’s passionate leadership and collaboration with relevant regulatory and accreditation agencies in the country.

He described the University as one of the most -sought-after institutions by prospective students in the State and indeed the nation and promised to deepen efforts in prioritizing education as a means of social advancement and growth as captured in the Arise Agenda.

He highlighted his administration’s contributions and support to the Institution, which among others include the awards of contract for the construction of internal roads at the main campus, and payment of subvention and bursaries to students in tertiary institutions and others.

The Governor urged the Governing Council to maintain zero tolerance for cultism and other anti -social activities in the University, stressing that degrees are awarded based on learning and character and urged the students to be committed to fortifying intellectual foundations for success and growth.

He congratulated the newly- appointed Chancellor of the University, Solomon D. Etuk, the Oku Ibom Ibibio, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing board, Distinguished Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, CON and other members on their appointment, and wished them a successful tenure.

Other members of the University Governing Council are the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Surveyor Mfoniso Essien, Lady Stella Udoh, Dr. Enefiok Edem, Prof. Ubong Essien, and Dr. Frank Ekpenyong.
