Anambra State has emerged as the overall best-performing state in Nigeria, clinching nine awards across various categories at the 2025 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards.
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the State Commissioner for Education, announced the achievement on Monday in Awka.
The award ceremony, held on Sunday at the Eagle Square, Abuja, saw the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, present prizes to the winners.
Chuma-Udeh said that Woliwo Primary School II, Onitsha, emerged as the overall best school in Nigeria and received a 16-seater bus as the star prize.
She commended schools and educators across the state for their resilience, hard work, and commitment to academic excellence.
Reacting to the feat, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, congratulated the schools and teachers for once again making the state proud.
In a statement issued on Monday, Soludo described the achievement as proof of Anambra’s leadership and sustained investment in quality education.
She noted that education remains the backbone of the state’s human capital development plan, saying, “The Dubai-Taiwan journey begins in the classroom.”
“I’m super excited to learn that Anambra won nine historic awards at the 2025 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards,” she said.
“These awards represent the fruits of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s continued investment in the education sector. The 2025 budget allocated over 10 per cent of total spending to education — the highest among all sectors.
“The results are evident, thanks to clear vision and intentional effort. Congratulations to Anambra students and teachers. May your flame of excellence continue to shine brighter,” Soludo added.
