The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has approved the appointment of Prof. Abdullahi Mati as the Director of the Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the vice-chancellor has also approved the appointment of Prof. Audu-Joseph Natala as the Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).
Malam Auwalu Umar, Director, Public Affairs Directorate, disclosed this in a statement he issued on Monday in Zaria.
Umar said the appointments were conveyed to the beneficiaries in separate letters signed by the vice-chancellor.
He added that each appointment was for an initial tenure of two years subject to satisfactory performances.
According to him, Mati’s appointment was based on his extensive experience and distinguished record of service.
He said Mati previously served as Reactor Manager at CERT and was the pioneer Director of the Centre for Renewable Energy Research at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina.
“As Director of CERT, Prof. Mati is expected to provide strategic leadership and address existing institutional challenges, particularly in the areas of funding, staff development, capacity building, research relevance and infrastructure.
“He is also expected to reposition the Centre to effectively deliver on its national mandate in energy research, training and policy support, in line with the university’s strategic research goals and Nigeria’s energy development priorities,” Umar said.
He said Natala, a Professor of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology, was appointed in recognition of his commitment, hard work, ethical values, integrity and ability to build strong professional relationships.
Umar said Natala’s appointment came at a critical time, aimed at repositioning the Veterinary Teaching Hospital as a functional, integrated and performance-driven teaching hospital.
He said the new VTH Director was expected to provide purposeful leadership in addressing underperformance in clinical teaching and diagnostic services.
“The vice-chancellor congratulated the appointees and wished them success in their new responsibilities,” Umar added.
