As the closing date for the registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) draws near, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says that no fewer than 1.16 million people have registered for the exams.
The Registrar of the board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated this on Saturday in Abuja during a monitoring exercise of some registration centers.
Oloyede, who emphasized that the board would not extend the February 14 deadline for registration, urged intending admission seekers to hasten to complete their registration.
He warned that the board would not condone acts of extortion practiced by some schools in the country.
According to him, some schools were charging as high as N30,000 to register students for the examinations.
He said that the board has given out its contact details to report such acts for immediate attention.
He added that the board was ready to reward anyone who reports such acts of extortion to it.
