The Zamfara State Police Command has dismissed reports that 40 worshippers were abducted during morning prayers in Tsafe Local Government Area, clarifying that eight persons were taken by suspected bandits.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the incident occurred around 5:07 am on Monday, September 15, 2025, when armed men attacked the Gidan Turbe area of Tsafe.

Those abducted were identified as Liman Yahaya (46), Dan Garfi (52), Malam Damu (47), Bello Natsuhuwa (36), Yakubu Isa (40), Audu Minista (34), Yaquba Ado (27), and Sabi Usman (41).

Abubakar stressed that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders, are making efforts to rescue the victims safely. He also urged residents to rely on verified information from official sources to avoid causing unnecessary fear.

“The Command is working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted victims. We also call on the public to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station,” the statement added.
