Terrorists have killed four policemen and three other persons when they invaded a weekly market in Yar Bulutu, Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state on Monday.
The spokesperson of the state Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sanusi confirmed the development to ASHENEWS on Tuesday.
“Yes. I can confirm to you that four mobile policemen lost their lives in the attack. They were gallantly trying to repel the terrorists attack but were killed in the process,” DSP Sanusi told this reporter.
ASHENEWS further gathered that the terrorists attacked the market at about 12:30pm.
Caliphate FM reports that the member representing Sabon Birni South at the state House of Assembly, Sa’idu Ibrahim said the the terrorists launched the attack on 20 motorcycles carrying three persons each.
“First they went to where the mobile policemen who were guiding the market were stationed. They killed two of them and set one of their vehicles on fire.
“They later killed another policeman who ran into the bush, dragged his body from the bush and throw it into the burning vehicle. They also killed three other persons in the market and injured several others.
“Right now I am with one of my brothers at Orthopaedic hospital in Wamakko because he was shot in the leg by the attackers,” Caliphate FM quoted the member as saying.
According to Ibrahim, the bandits were those who fled from sustained military onslaught in Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna states.
“The operation ought to have been carried out in all the states experiencing banditry in the North West simultaneously but because it is not taking place in Sokoto, the state now became a safe haven for bandits dislodged in those states,” the member said.
