The Sokoto state command of the Nigeria Police have killed 23, arrested 57 other suspected bandits and recovered cache of weapons.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (Operations), Zaki Ahmed while addressing newsmen at the command headquarters on Monday.
According to him, the arrest followed Operation Sahara Storm which raided bandits camps in Illela, Rabah and Goronyo local government areas of the state.
“Weapons recovered include 32 AK-47 rifles; two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher; one rocket launcher; 1,412 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition; 1,200 round of AA live ammunition; four locally made pistols; one Barreta pistol; four operational vehicles; 33 live cartridges; three AK-47 magazines” and many others.
“All the suspects were linked to the notorious bandit leader, Turji and they all confessed to their complicity in the crime of banditry,” Ahmed said.
He added that investigation is on and the suspects would be charged soon as completed.
