The Kogi government has confirmed the safe rescue of all victims abducted from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage in Lokoja.

Government Confirms Victims’ Rescue

The confirmation was issued on Wednesday in Lokoja by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo.

Attacks and Abductions

It was reported that gunmen attacked the orphanage on April 26, abducting 23 pupils, including the proprietor’s wife.

Initial Rescue Efforts

The government had earlier confirmed the rescue of 15 victims on April 27 following intensified security operations across the state.

Remaining Victims Rescued

Fanwo said the remaining nine victims regained freedom during a rescue operation early Wednesday.

Major Breakthrough in Security

He described the development as a major breakthrough against criminal elements and a relief to affected families.

Security Forces Lead Rescue

According to him, troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army led the rescue mission, supported by other security agencies.

Details of the Rescue

“The operation, in Agbaja Forest in Lokoja, resulted in the safe recovery of five boys, two girls, and two adult females,” Fanwo stated.

Victims Receiving Medical Care

“The rescued victims have been evacuated to a military medical facility where they are receiving proper care,” he added.

Governor Praises Security Agencies

Governor Ahmed Ododo praised the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their professionalism and bravery.

Resilience of Victims & Families

He also commended the victims and their families for their resilience during the traumatic experience.

Commitment to Security

“The safety of residents is our top priority. This operation shows our determination to keep Kogi free of criminal elements,” Ododo said.

Ongoing Security Efforts

He pledged to strengthen security, improve intelligence, and support agencies to act swiftly.

Support from the President

The governor thanked President Bola Tinubu for backing security efforts and praised security chiefs nationwide for their cooperation.

Zero Tolerance on Crime

Ododo reaffirmed Kogi’s zero-tolerance stance on kidnapping and other violent crimes.

Call for Vigilance

He urged residents to stay vigilant and support security with timely, credible information.

Justice for Perpetrators

Ododo assured that efforts are ongoing to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
