The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has cautioned the youth, especially scavengers against roaming around demolished structures, trespassing and looting properties.
Recall that, on Thursday, at about 1430hrs (02:30pm), demolished buildings collapsed and trapped some scavengers at Daula Hotel and Eid Praying Ground.
Gumel, in a statement by the spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, made available to ASHENEWS on Friday, said the act is not only criminal but also a threat to life.
ASHENEWS recalls that on the 8th and 9th of June 2023, 106 suspected scavengers were arrested for criminal offences of trespass, mischief and theft and charged to the Magistrate Court 35 Nomans Land Kano.
According to Gumel, “It’s heart-warming that despite several warnings by the Police Command to these scavengers refused to steer clear and avoid movement around these sites.’
CP Gumel, immediately joined rescue workers from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and State Government officials where they were jointly briefed on some causalities with a high chance of fatality.
The Commissioner commiserated with the family of the deceased and wished those injured speedy recovery.
He also called on parents, and community leaders to warn their wards to avoid those sites, while reiterating that “security is everybody’s business and all hands need to be on deck to ensure the protection of lives and properties.”
The statement said, in the event of case of emergencies, Kano State Police Command could be reached through phone numbers; 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926, or log in to the NPF Rescue Me Application available in the Play Store, or through the following Online Media Platforms;
