JUST IN: Terrorists abduct worshippers in Zamfara Mosque

Terrorists on Tuesday attacked a mosque in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara state, and abducted scores of worshippers.

According to Daily Trust, the attack was carried out when the Muslim worshippers were observing the famous congregational prayer, Tahajjud (Midnight).

Tahajjud is a special prayer being observed by Muslims in every last 10 days of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Zamfara is a state in northwestern Nigeria. The capital of Zamfara state is Gusau and its current governor is Dauda Lawal. Until 1996, the area was part of Sokoto State.

Zamfara is a densely populated area with the Hausa. The Zamfarawa mainly in Anka, Gummi, Bukkuyum, and Talata Mafara Local government areas. Gobirawa populated Shinkafi Local Government.

Gobirawa migrated from the Gobir Kingdom. Burmawa is found in Bakura and Fulani peopled Bungudu, Maradun, and Gusau and are scattered all over the State.

In Chafe, Bungudu, and Maru, most are mainly Katsinawa, Garewatawa, and Hadejawa. While, Alibawa people are located at Kaura Namoda and Zurmi, the Alawan Shehu Usmanu Fulani’s are found in Birninmagaji.

Nigeria has one of the highest terrorism threat levels in the world. Despite a general decrease in terror-related deaths, the country recently recorded the eighth highest number of people who died in terrorist attacks worldwide, after Myanmar.

Several militant groups are active in Nigeria, leading to attacks on both civilian and military targets. 

Boko Haram is by far the deadliest, most active in the north of the country. Certain deaths have also been attributed to Fulani extremists, while further violent outcomes have been characterizing conflicts among other herdsmen, farmers, and ethnic groups.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer (salah), reflection, and community.
