The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi on Tuesday confirmed the death of 12 passengers in a road traffic accident at the Ezillo end of the Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja highway.
Uche Chukwurah, the Sector Commander, of the FRSC said that the accident involved a white-colored Ford shuttle bus and a pink-colored articulated vehicle.
“The registration number of the shuttle bus is EBJ 350 XA while the articulated vehicle has no registration number.
“Fourteen persons were involved in the accident with 12 dead and two seriously injured.
“The dead persons consist of 10 males and two females, and the accident occurred at about 10. am,” she said.
The sector commander added that the injured passengers were evacuated to Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Cross River State, Abdullahi Hassan also confirmed the death of six persons following an accident on Tuesday.
Hassan said that the accident involving a truck and Sienna vehicle along the Calabar-Ogoja highway in Cross River left one person injured.
“We have eight male adults and one female adult in the vehicles. One male adult sustained an injury, while those who died were six, consisting of five males and one female.
“The registration number of the Siena vehicle is AFM 810 NK, while the truck has no number. The probable cause of the crash is wrongful overtaking and speeding.
“Both the injured and those who died have been taken to the General Hospital in Ogoja by officers of the FRSC,” he said.
Hassan advised motorists to desist from wrongful overtaking and speeding on highways.
