The Kaduna state chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) on Wednesday, claimed that bandits killed 10 teachers and kidnapped 50 others across the 23 local government areas of the state from January 2022 till date.
Its chairman, Ishaya Dauda disclosed this at a media briefing as part of the activities to commemorate the 2022 International World Teachers’ Day.
The theme of this year’s event is “The transformation of Education begins with teachers”.
The Union pleaded with Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i to use every means possible to rescue the teachers and others in the kidnappers’ captivity.
“More than 10 secondary school teachers were killed and over 50 others abducted from January 2022 till date in Kaduna and the abducted teachers are still in Captivity. There is no organization that has been affected by insecurity in Kaduna State.
“The union is fully aware of the insecurity that is threatening the cooperate existence of Kaduna State citizens especially in our schools.
“We are equally aware of efforts being made by the State government towards the recruitment of Kaduna State vigilante service to secure our schools,” Dauda stated.
