Nigeria’s top military officer, General Christopher Musa, has called for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help fight terrorism in Africa.
Speaking at the Africa Chief of Defence Staff Conference in Abuja, Nigeria, on Monday, General Musa encouraged other African military leaders to invest in AI to combat terrorist groups such as Boko Haram, ISWAP, Al-Qaeda, and Al-Shabaab.
He explained that because security threats in Africa are changing, it is necessary to use digital tools to fight enemies who are often hard to see and target.
“The way wars are fought is changing. Today’s threats are not just traditional battles; they include digital and hidden attacks. Sometimes the enemy is already inside,” Musa said.
He added that military leaders must take the lead in preparing their forces by investing in cyber-defence, AI, and locally made military technology. Without these, he said, it will be hard to keep countries safe.
