The National Human Rights Commission  (NHRC) on Tuesday said that 112 UN Member States have expressed political commitment to ensure the general protection of education from attack. President Muhammadu Buhari has granted approval to 159 companies, communities and institutions of higher learning to operate radio and television stations. Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Balarabe Ilelah made the disclosure in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday. “Following the approval granted by the president, NBC has released the list of 159 licenses granted to companies, communities and institutions of higher learning. “The commission was established by the NBC ACT, Cap. The Senate on Tuesday at plenary passed for second reading, a Bill for an Act to repeal the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act 2005. Presenting the lead debate on general principles of the bill, its sponsor Sen. The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Tuesday expressed concern about attitudes of some media houses that owe journalists backlog of salary. The union also canvassed for enhanced enabling environment and improved welfare packages for its members nationwide. The House of Representatives has set up a seven- member Conference Committee on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. Rep Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives announced this during the plenary on Tuesday in Abuja. A non governmental organisation, Small-Scale Women Farmers Organisation in Nigeria (SWOFON), has called on governments and other stakeholders to support women farmers in rural areas. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the southwest on Tuesday challenged governors in the zone to ensure the protection of its social, economic and political interests.
