Niger Republic’s chief of the Presidential Guard, General Abdourahamane Tchiani has been named “president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland,” the state television reported on Friday.
General Tchiani’s appointment followed the military coup that ousted the democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum, who has been detained by army putschists since Wednesday morning.
