ASHENEWS reports that Students of the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai have cried out over the extortion by water vendors and those who charge phones due to the unavailabllity of electricity and water.
The students say they now buy a truck of 10 jerricans of water for N2,500, a bag of cold sachet water for N700, an iced block sachet water costs N200, one sachet of cold sachet water cost N50, a rubber paint bucket of water for N200, a jerricans of water between N300 to N400.
For charging of phones, the students say they charge their phones for N150 while power banks are charged between N200 to N300.

The students said that they have stayed for more than 15 days without electricity and water saying that the only source of water was boreholes which the owners use generator to put water.
One of the brothers of the student, Ameena Zubairu who confirmed it said that his sister who schoold in IBBUL said that the struggle hard to get water while electricity is not regular.
A student called Mhitza Jibson said it has not been easy for students, “Imagine using kettle water to bath for one complete week, eating eba for sahur everyday just to minimize water, you will be in lecture hall and be thinking of where to get water after school hour. My Dad said I should come rest for house throughout this week. Next week I will go back”
Another student, Maikudi Alhaji said, “To charge ordinary powerbank N400, pure water cool one N50, infact every thing in lapai is different from other places. May Allah bring an end to this calamity”, he said.
Another student, Philemon Jayson said, “it is well with us! Charging of phone goes for N150 and N200 respectively. “
In a cases like this, what should the Niger state government do? Watch? No. Produce boreholes in the university to lessen this burden.
