ASHENEWS reports that the Minister for Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Malagi has said that the federal government intends to revive Nigeria’s national values via the National Value Charter.
The minister stated this while speaking during the annual general meeting and election of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Niger state chapter in Minna on Tuesday.
The Minister, who was represented by the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Jirbin Ndace explained that the charter provides clear guidelines explaining not just the rights of citizens on the government but also the demands of the government on the people.
“This is about citizen-government commitment and what is unique about it is that aside a commitment to serve the citizen by the government, there is a demand or request to citizen unlike what we had in the past which states that citizens have rights based on what is in the constitution but you also have responsibilities as citizens.
“Yes, we are in a global village but we have our identity and values as various ethnic groups.
“For instance when you go to a country, there are demands required from the citizens. This will stipulate what Nigeria requires from citizens and what it demands from them.”
He further stressed that the federal government intends to bring back public trust in the government through open communication with the public.
In his presentation during the event, the NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku represented by the Vice President, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, encouraged Nigerians to imbibe the culture of a positive mindset and desist from the habit of speaking ill of the country.
He stressed that trust remains a fundamental pillar in relationship management and nation-building.
