ASHENEWS reports that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has rolled out the “Police Go Green” initiative as part of the Police Force’s contribution to Nigeria’s global commitment to climate change.
The IGP, who declared public the initiative by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) at the ongoing 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai said the core mission of the NPGI aligns with global efforts for a more environmentally friendly society.
“The core mission of NPGI aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and contribute to a more environmentally friendly society. The IGP emphasized the crucial role law enforcement plays in ensuring a safer and more sustainable future and called for collective support to address climate challenges.
“Recognizing the global shift towards sustainable energy, the IGP highlighted the Police Force’s active involvement in facilitating energy transition initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint,” a statement issued by the force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said.
It added that the initiative would involve tree planting in all Police commands and formations, the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas to drive Police patrol vans, a continuous campaign for renewable energy initiatives in Nigeria, and a strategic approach to light up communities and police stations.
This it said would create well-lit and secure environments, contributing to a reduction in crime rates and fostering community development.
The IGP, who sought collaboration to address climate challenges noted that law enforcement plays a key role in ensuring a safer and more sustainable future.
