ASHENEWS reports that the Salma Attah Foundation for Women and Girls Support (SAFWGS) has hosted a summit for over 100 students to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC).

The summit, tagged the “Ignite Her Summit 1.0” brought together students of selected schools in Minna, the Niger state capital.

The summit, according to a statement issued by the foundation featured dynamic leadership workshops focusing on effective communication and decision-making.

This is in addition to interactive sessions on goal setting and vision boards, Self-Defense and Safety Workshops with the Kinnupe Taekwondo Foundation to Art and Creativity Sessions with the Minna Sip and Paint.

“The summit fostered an environment of empowerment. Additionally, role-playing scenarios and bystander approach workshops empowered girls and boys with the knowledge to tackle real-life situations confidently.

“The summit’s commitment wall, adorned with pledges from young girls, showcased their determination to make a difference. Their promises ranged from promoting gender equality to active participation in community development initiatives, underlining their readiness to assume leadership roles,” the statement said.

The foundation said that it will continue to float innovative programs and collaborative efforts, in a bid to create a world where every girl’s dreams are achievable, and their voices are heard.

“During the summit, stakeholders pledged continued support, offering resources, mentorship, and opportunities to further the educational and leadership journeys of these young girls. These commitments range from the use of resources to mentorship programs, ensuring that the girls’ aspirations are met with tangible support.”

The foundation further pledged to promote the empowerment of girls and young women by providing them with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to thrive.

The IDGC, commemorated annually on Oct. 11, focuses on addressing challenges encountered by girls while also fostering their empowerment and upholding their rights.

This year’s event was commemorated with the theme “Amplify Her Voice.”

The theme, which charges governments to enforce policies that initiate matching prospects for girls also pursues the empowerment of girls to take control over their lives and health.
