ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five persons, including a father and his two sons over alleged armed robbery.
The suspects according to the police were arrested in the Maitumbi area of the Minna metropolis shortly after they attacked a residence around the Top medical area of Tunga, Minna on 9th July 2023.
A statement signed by the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said that the father of the suspects and one other person were arrested for receiving and concealing the stolen properties.
The Police also accused the two other suspects of harboring the robbery suspects by admitting them to gain entrance to the house as early as 04:00 am when they returned from the robbery scene,”
“During interrogation, the robbery suspects confessed to the crime and mentioned other robbery incidences the syndicate had carried out at different locations in Minna such as in Mandela, Brighter, Maitumbi, David Mark road, Mobile quarters, and Farm center areas of Minna in the past two months.
“More than ten victims of their robbery escapades had surfaced and identified the syndicate, as well as some of their properties robbed,” the statement added.
According to the police, exhibits recovered from the suspects during the investigation include the sum of N250,000, 102,000 CFA, 4,000 WON, 13 mobile phones, and one laptop computer.
Others included three wristwatches, One axe, a knife, a nail bar, a saw, an iron cutter, scissors, a plier, an MP3 player, six caps, and other clothing materials.
The statement added that the suspects are under investigation at SCID Minna, while an effort is ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.
