The Kebbi state government says it will provide the necessary support, including facilities for the establishment of the State Drug Management Agency for sustainable drug revolving.
The Deputy Governor, Umar Abubakar disclosed this when he received a team from the Global Health Supply Procurement and Management led by the Technical Director, Mr. Dimda James in his office on Friday.
According to Abubakar, healthcare delivery is one of top priorities of the administration of Dr. Nasir Idris, which he emphasized, is important to the development of the citizens and the state.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Shehu Nuhu Koko, said the team was in the state for the assessment of the state preparedness towards the establishment of the agency in the state.
Dr. Koko explained that, the team which is an implementing partner of USAID, has trained personnel who would handle the drugs and pledged to provide support of drug worth $1 million to the state.
According to him, the team has observed that the state needed standard central drug storage, renovated and furnished storages, and adequate personnel.
He suggested that, the personnel must not be Medical Doctors or Pharmacists, adding that even Community Health Officers can handle the drug.
Dr. Koko said the Drug Revolving Fund as a program of the Federal Government, is aimed at helping people have access to health care delivery.
The Team Leader from Global Health Supply Chain- Procurement and Supply Management, Mr. Dimda James who congratulated the state government for its giant strides, appreciated the readiness of the government to partner for the establishment of the Agency.
He pointed out that USAID’s support is for Kebbi, Sokoto and Bauchi states, noting that the state has been assessed to have met the requirement for the intervention.
