Fire, in the wee hours of Saturday gutted a section of the storage facility at the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

A statement by the spokesperson of the Corps, DSC Abolurin Oluwaseun made available to newsmen on Saturday, said Corps Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, extolled “the commitment of the  Corps’ personnel on duty and the support of the Lagos State Fire Serve in putting the sudden outbreak under total control and ensuring the safety of lives and property and protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure around the entire command.”

According to the statement, the fire started “at about 03:30hrs when the officers and men on duty at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos  State Command’s Headquarters, heard a sound which they traced to a meagre section of the storage facility, where a few exhibits stored in kegs are usually, kept.

“The fire engulfed the storage section housing some few exhibits recovered, by the command, through various operational activities.

“The NSCDC, Lagos State Commandant, Commandant of Corps Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, immediately, leveraged, on the synergy between the Corps and the Lagos State Fire Service, who responded in a giffe, to assist the disaster management unit and the  command’s personnel, on duty to put out the fire and bring the situation under absolute control, without further delay,” the statement reads.

“The command will unravel the cause of the fire outbreak, but it was important to extol the commitment of the Corps’ personnel on duty and the unquantifiable support of the Lagos State Fire Serve in putting the sudden outbreak under total control, with the professional zeal to ensuring the safety of lives and property and protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure around the section, where the outbreak occured, such as galaxy, access bank and other government facilities, which remain a top priority of our Core mandates,” the Commandant said.

No casualty was recorded because of the unprecedented response aforementioned above apart from the ugly colouration of the storage section caused due to the fire incident.

The Commandant also promised to ensure a total repair and rehabilitation of the engulfed storage facility and build better one with all modern safety facilities within a very short time.
