The Zamfara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the state government to create special camps to contain the surging Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
ASHENEWS reports that the plea is contained in a Communique issued at the end of the union’s congress meeting held in Gusau on Saturday.
“The Congress express deep concern over the high rate of IDPs occasioned by security challenges in the state and called on Zamfara state government to either establish IDP camps.
“As part of the resolutions unanimously reached at the congress is call on the state government to either establish IPDs camps”, or alternatively “provide adequate security in the villages to enable the residents stay in their respective homes and also to prevent further displacement of people.”
Chaired by Ibrahim Musa Maizare, the meeting reviewed the Council and chapels’ progress, including the state-of-the-state current state of Zamfara State as critical stakeholders in public affairs.
The union enjoined the general public to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any security threat in their respective localities for possible action.
It also applauded governor Bello Muhammad for implementing the N30,000 minimum wage and called on the government to resolve some lacuna in the payment to make it proper.
