The Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Mohammed Sani Musa, has disbursed 1,800 bags of fertilizers to farmers in his constituency.
The Senator stated that the fertilizers were being distributed to the nine local government areas that make up the constituency to boost agricultural activities.
Making the distribution, the lawmaker who was represented by Alhaji Baba Sule Bissala, said the fertilizers will enable the farmers have adequate input for their farms, especially as most of them have been affected by COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted that the farm produce in Niger East senatorial district, have the ability to feed the nation if necessary support is given to the farmers.
He however, lamented that insecurity had created a negative impact on agricultural activities in the zone, saying that this may affect the output of farm produce during harvest.
He appealed to the federal government to employ all mechanisms to tackle the challenges.
“The Federal government must find a lasting solution to the banditry problem bedevilling Niger East, so as to maximize the agricultural potential of the area. There is no doubt that insecurity is a major clog in the wheel of farmers in the area,” Musa said.
An All Progressives Congress, APC, Chieftain, Alhaji Zubairu Ismail Zannah, warned against diversion of the items, stressing the need of all concerned to ensure that they reach the targeted farmers.
