Irate youths in Akure, in Ondo state, nearly lynched a 32-year old father, Muyiwa Ayorinde for allegedly dumping his three weeks old baby into a canal.

Although Ayorinde is now in Police net, the Command’s Spokesperson, Tee Leo lkoro said he was yet to be briefed about the incident when contacted.

However, eyewitnesses said the baby, who was still alive when the young men spotted him, later died in the hospital after he was rescued by sympathizers.

“Luck ran out on the father as he was spotted by one of residents at about noon while he attempted to escape after dumping his three-weeks-old baby into the canal. “When he arrived at the side of the canal, he brought out a black bag and threw it into the canal.

“lt was the cry of the baby that attracted passerby and those who suspected his movement on arrival by the side of the canal.

“The baby was rescued after some boys jumped inside the carnal and taken to a nearby hospital. The boys later descended on the suspects and he was thoroughly beaten up.

Another witness said: “I saw the young man looking strange as he alighted from the Okada and pulled out a black bag and dropped it into the canal.

“When we heard a baby’s voice cried out. Then we knew what he had come to do. People have been coming from different places to dump things in this canal. We have to make it as a point of duty to make sure it stopped.

“This man is a wicked man to have come here to dump his own child” Thank God for the swift intervention of the security men that came around. Am sure with the kind of anger I saw on people here they would have killed him”.
