The immediate past chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kaduna state council, Adamu Yusuf has moved to reconcile the new executive council members with some aggrieved member of the union.
ASHENEWS recall that the union election that ushered in the new officials in December 2021, was met with disagreement that resulted in the aggrieved approaching the court to address the issues.
However, the former chairman, who was at the Kaduna NUJ Secretariat on Thursday, said the move is aimed to set aside the differences generated over last council election and chart a way forward for peaceful co-existence among members.
He declared his loyalty to the new EXCO led by Asmau Halilu, who he said commanded the majority.
“We have faced each other in court but now peace is needed, we must come together as one.
“I have no other place than NUJ. Anything outside peace I won’t be part of it.
“I identify with Asma’u-led EXCO; my loyalty lies in them. The majority belongs here and I have full confidence in the union,” he said.
Adamu promised to head the reconciliation process in order to have one strong and indivisible NUJ.
“All camps must desist from provocative comments and put all differences away in the interest of the union,” he stated.
Responding, the council chairman, Halilu commended the former chairman for the steps taken towards restoring peace in the union.
According to her, while saying that she will commit herself to the peace process, Asmau called on all to support Yusuf to succeed.
Also speaking at the reconciliation meeting, former Kaduna NUJ Vice Chairman Mohammed Sabiyu said: “There’s light at the end of the day.
“I have been in this union for 27 years. I studied peace up to Master’s level.
“I started from Kaduna when I was young and now back in Kaduna in old age and I can’t watch when there is no harmony.”
