Bandits have again stormed Government Day Secondary School Kaya in Maradun local government of Zamfara state and kidnapped about 100 students with some teachers in the state.
ASHENEWS gathered that the bandits stormed the school around 11am on Wednesday when the students were taking lessons in their classrooms.
A resident of the area told our reporter through telephone on condition of anonymity, said the bandits stormed the school premises around 11:00am shooting sporadically and kidnapped the students.
“As I am talking to you now, we cannot ascertain how many students and their teachers have been kidnapped but we saw over 100 students and their teachers being chased by the bandits,” the source said.
Contacted, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu told our reporter that the Police was still investigating the incident.
“Please I will get back to you, just give me some minutes,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Zamfara state governor has ordered total closure of all primary and secondary schools across the state.
He also imposed a 8pm to 6am curfew in the metropolitan Gusau local government and 6pm to 6am in the remaining 13 local government areas of the state.
“In Gusau, the lockdown would start from 8pm to 6am,while the remaining 13 local government areas would be from 6pm to 6am”.
Also addressing newsmen on Wednesday at the police headquarters in Gusau,the State commissioner of police CP Ayuba Elkana, said he was directed to announce the closure of all secondary schools by the governor.
“Following a security threat, the governor has directed the closure of all primary and secondary schools with a view to ensure safety of citizens in the state”.
He stressed that all security personnel are to ensure the total compliance with the order.
Elkana called on the general public to remain calm and be law abiding and support the security in their bid to protect people and their property in the state.
