The Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has been appointed to chair a stakeholder advisory committee on ways to tackle the security challenges bedevilling the state.
Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal disclosed this to newsmen after a maiden meeting of the stakeholders on insecurity, on Wednesday, in Sokoto.
He said the meeting was convened in recognition of the rising security challenges of the state and the need to bring together everybody, irrespective of their political or religious inclinations, to proffer solutions to the problem.
Tambuwal emphasized that bandits, kidnappers and other criminals, had subjected everybody to a difficult situation, hence, the need for a strategy to face the challenges.
According to him, although the federal government had been doing its best through the security agencies, to tackle the menace, state governments needed to complement the efforts.
As the situation was on the rise, government had decided to invite all political office holders, traditional and religious institutions, community groups and non-governmental organizations, to review the problem and offer solutions, he said.
He added that the committee had seven days within which to present its report, describing it as critical to finding lasting solutions to the challenging situation.
”Impressive turnout of various stakeholders from different areas at this meeting has demonstrated how united Sokoto citizens are on facing the security challenges,” Tambuwal said.
He called on the people to support the committee and the state government in the efforts to end the security challenges of the state.
The meeting was attended by former governors and deputy governors of Sokoto state, serving Senators, Federal house members, state assembly members, traditional and religious leaders, among others.
