The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Sokoto state, has adopted consensus method to elect party officials in the state.
A statement on Saturday by its acting chairperson, Isa Achida issued after the meeting, which held on Thursday, said major stakeholders of the party attended the attended to take the decision, at the residence of the party leader, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko.
“The meeting was attended by Senator Ibrahim Gobir, who represents Sokoto East Senatorial District, and Senator Aliyu Wamakko who also represents Sokoto North Senatorial District.
“Also at the meeting were the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi and Executive Secretary, Police Trust Find, Ahmed Aliyu.
“Others were six of the seven APC members of the House of Representatives, as well as 13 of the 15 APC members of the State House of Assembly.
“Yet in attendance were all members of the party elders committee, led by Abdullahi Aminu; caretaker executive committee, led by Isa Achida and the entire 23 local government party chairmen who came along with most of their local government party stakeholders.
“Most former members of the State Executive Council and State Assembly who are party members, also attended the meeting,” the statement reads.
According to Achida, the briefing at the meeting was given by the caretaker committee chairman “on the guidelines and directives issued by the National Caretaker Committee in respect of the forth coming congresses, billed to start on Saturday the 31st of July as well as the state of preparedness of the Sokoto State Chapter.
“Having considered all the available options, as contained in the guidelines, the meeting unanimously decided to adopt the consensus option, as far as practicable.
“The meeting observed that the choice of consensus was guided by the need to reduce acrimony and uphold party unity,” Achida further stated.
