As a result the overwhelming challenges of insecurity in his country Nigeria, Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal on Monday in Khartoum, Sudan declined the conferment of honorary degree on him by the Nahda International University College, NIUC.
ASHENEWS reported earlier on Monday that the governor would be in Sudan to attend the graduation ceremony of 38 Sokoto students who bagged various degrees in Medicine/Surgery, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Laboratory Sciences and Information Communication Technology (ICT) at the Ibn Sina University (ISU) and NIUC.
However, shortly after his arrival in Khartoum on Sunday, Tambuwal declined the award on reasons that his country is prevailed with the situation of insecurity.
“I won’t be able to oblige your humble request because of the condition in which my country finds itself at this time.
“But you may wish to defer the conferment until a later date. For now, I have come to see my children and wards,” he told the Acting Dean of NIUC, Prof. Qaribullah Abbas.
In his response, Prof. Qaribullah craved the governor’s indulgence to accept an Award of Excellence instead of the honorary degree.
Meanwhile, Tambuwal has charged Nigerian students in Sudan and other countries to sustain their steadfastness and discipline while pursuing their studies.
He gave the charge in Khartoum, when he attended the graduation ceremony of medical and health students sponsored by the state government in various institutions of learning in the country.
Congratulating the students, Tambuwal praised them for their determination and decency, especially when faced with uncertainty about completing their studies due to skyrocketing forex issues.
According to him, their exhibition of good conduct, a hallmark of the typical upbringing of Sokoto citizens, had reflected in their milestone performances, which on Monday made the state proud.
Highlights of the event at the Friendship Hall of Khartoum, near Corinthia Hotel, was the presentation of a merit award to Tambuwal for his diligence, and commitment to not only students but also the good people of Sokoto state.
A similar award was given to the governor by one of the universities from which the students graduated.
