The Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area in Ekiti, Mr. Bayo Omojola, distributed improved cocoa seedlings to over 70 farmers in the council on Saturday.
The event was held at the local government secretariat in Ikole-Ekiti.
Omojola said the initiative aimed to boost farmers’ earnings and livelihoods.
He explained that the improved seedlings would replace aging cocoa trees, increase productivity, and provide high-yield planting materials to enhance both production and income.
He assured the beneficiaries that more farmers in the area would receive cocoa seedlings.
“I am passionate about agricultural development, which is also part of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s six-point agenda.
“We are giving free cocoa seedlings to farmers to improve and boost agricultural production.
“I urge the beneficiaries not to sell the seedlings but to make good use of them on their farms. I also encourage youths to engage in agriculture,” he said.
Two beneficiaries, Mr. Kayode Awolusi and Mr. Boboye Olaleye, thanked the chairman for the gesture.
They promised to use the cocoa seedlings to create wealth and promote agriculture in their communities.
