The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) will convene key stakeholders to explore innovative ways to strengthen public institutions and accelerate reforms nationwide.
The bureau announced this in Abuja, stating that the event will include a public lecture and activities to mark the United Nations Public Service Day on June 23.
BPSR Director-General Mr. Dasuki Arabi emphasized the event’s role in fostering excellence in the public service and supporting reforms to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness of public institutions.
He highlighted that strengthening institutions is vital for sustainable development, better service delivery, and restoring public trust.
Arabi noted that the lecture series would enable Nigeria to join the global community in celebrating innovation, reform, and excellence in public administration.
The forum aims to promote idea exchange, share best practices, and discuss practical solutions to build innovative, inclusive, accountable, and citizen-centered institutions capable of addressing Nigerians’ evolving needs.
The event’s theme is: “Transforming Public Institutions: Advancing Innovation, Participation and Inclusion.”
It will bring together senior government officials, policymakers, development partners, civil society, academics, and governance experts to discuss strategies for improving institutional performance and promoting inclusive governance.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State will chair the event, with former Civil Service Head Bukar Aji delivering the keynote lecture.
Highlights include discussions on trends in public sector management, citizen engagement, digital transformation, and innovative governance solutions.
The UN Public Service Day, established by the UN General Assembly in December 2002, celebrates public service and its contributions to communities worldwide. It recognizes public service’s role in national development, honors public servants, and encourages youth to pursue careers in the sector.
The day also provides a platform for governments to showcase innovations, share success stories, and reaffirm commitments to improving public service for citizens.
