The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says the gas pipeline fire along Agege Motor Road, Ile Zik, inward Agege, has been successfully extinguished with no casualties recorded.
The Head of Public Affairs, LASEMA, Mr Olawale Afolabi, confirmed this to reporters on Monday in Lagos.
Afolabi said the fire involved a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).
He stated that the LASEMA Eagle Response Team arrived at the scene at about 3:13 a.m. following distress calls received through the 767 and 112 emergency toll-free lines.
On arrival, responders met the pipeline engulfed in flames. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
Afolabi noted that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded, thanks to the swift evacuation of residents and the immediate establishment of safety perimeters.
He said a joint team comprising the LASEMA Response Team (LRT), LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) firefighters, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained and extinguished the fire after the gas pipeline valve was shut.
“The operation has been concluded successfully, and all emergency responders have returned to base safely,” he added.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, assured residents that the situation was under control and that emergency response protocols were fully activated.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the Lagos State Government is working closely with NNPC Ltd to isolate the affected pipeline and conduct integrity checks before reactivation.
