One adult female died, and four other passengers sustained serious injuries when two Toyota Sienna vehicles collided on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, on Tuesday.
The accident occurred near Iyana-Iworo.
Mr. Olawale Afolabi, Head of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident to reporters in Lagos.
Afolabi stated that the accident happened early Tuesday morning, noting that both vehicles were commercial and fully loaded.
He explained that the injured victims were evacuated to a nearby trauma center for urgent medical care.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that reckless driving by another Toyota Sienna caused the crash, resulting in a head-on collision,” he said.
The official added that LASEMA’s Tiger Squad from the C3 Command, activated around 7:26 a.m., arrived at the scene by 8:00 a.m. to coordinate rescue and recovery efforts.
He further explained that LASEMA officers worked alongside police and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority personnel to secure the scene, manage traffic, and clear the wreckage.
He quoted the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, describing the accident as preventable and urging motorists to strictly follow traffic regulations.
Afolabi noted that Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the importance of caution on major highways, warning against excessive speed and dangerous overtaking.
He also advised motorists to maintain lane discipline and cooperate with traffic management officials.
