The Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, has matriculated 1,266 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Provost, Dr Umar Abdullahi, disclosed this on Saturday during the institution’s 19th matriculation ceremony held at the Dadin Kowa campus in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Dr Abdullahi, who was represented by his deputy, Ibrahim Isiaka, said the matriculating students were admitted into Higher National Diploma (HND), Ordinary National Diploma (OND), and certificate programmes across 19 disciplines.
He urged the students to be dedicated and disciplined in order to achieve academic excellence.
The provost noted that the college is student-centred and focused on nurturing future leaders in agriculture, environment, and allied fields in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Our vision is to build a world-class horticultural institution with strong academic standards, sound moral values, and entrepreneurial excellence,” he said.
Abdullahi added that the college remains unique as one of the first specialised institutions of its kind in Nigeria, dedicated to sustainable agriculture and environmental management.
He warned the students to shun all forms of social vices, stressing that the college has zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, cybercrimes, drug abuse, and other misconduct.
On environmental sustainability, the provost enjoined the students to participate in the college’s tree-planting initiative, noting that each student’s presence on campus would be symbolised by a planted tree.
He further disclosed that all programmes offered by the college have received full accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and that the institution boasts qualified academic staff, including many PhD holders.
