The Zamfara Government on Tuesday approved N3.8 billion for the immediate rehabilitation of the first phase of the Gusau Water Supply Scheme.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mahmud Dantawasa, the approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Gov. Dauda Lawal.
Dantawasa explained that the decision followed a memorandum from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure requesting urgent intervention in Gusau’s deteriorating water supply system.
“This forms part of the administration’s sustained efforts to address water scarcity and improve access to clean and safe water in the state capital,” he said. “The project aims to restore efficient water production and distribution across the city, ensuring reliable service for residents and enhancing public health and sanitation standards.”
He added that funding for the project is included in the 2026 Appropriation Law, reflecting the government’s commitment to prioritising critical infrastructure and improving citizens’ quality of life.
Upon completion, the State Water Corporation will oversee the operation and maintenance of the rehabilitated facilities to ensure sustainability and long-term service delivery.
“This initiative underscores Gov. Dauda Lawal’s commitment to addressing key developmental challenges and fulfilling his promise to provide essential services,” Dantawasa said. “We call on residents to support and cooperate with authorities to ensure the project’s successful execution.”
