The proprietor of Unique Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, Mr Kayode Olayinka, has called for greater emphasis on practical teaching to enhance learning in schools.
Speaking with reporters on Friday in Ilorin, Olayinka said schools should not concentrate excessively on theoretical classroom instruction.
“Schools need to prioritize practical knowledge alongside theoretical instruction.
“Students should practice what they learn on paper. It is not enough to teach them on the board; they should also be exposed to practical sessions in laboratories and workshops,” he said.
He noted that practical learning helps students understand better, learn faster, and builds their confidence in any environment.

“Practical classes are more lively and competitive, as students strive to produce the best results,” he added.
Olayinka, therefore, urged schools to strike a balance between theory and practical learning by investing in facilities and encouraging creativity among students.
He said practical knowledge could also help reduce unemployment, as graduates would be equipped to start their own ventures.
He called on governments at all levels and education stakeholders to invest in practical equipment to ensure a balanced learning environment and meaningful impact on students.
