The Aba Fire Service Commander, Mr. Belenta Belenta, has said that the cause of the fire that razed heaps of beer crates at the Nigerian Breweries Plc Aba Depot has yet to be determined.
Belenta confirmed to reporters in Aba on Friday that the fire broke out at the depot on Thursday evening, leaving stacks of beer crates completely burnt.
He commended the Federal Fire Service, Oris Group Fire Unit, and Valumbra Flour Mills Fire Unit for their assistance in bringing the fire under control.

He said that brewery staff appeared puzzled as to how the crates caught fire, as they were packed in an open field on the company’s premises, away from any power source.
Belenta added that the fire raged for hours, causing panic in the surrounding neighborhood.
He, however, expressed relief that there were no casualties.
Meanwhile, efforts to obtain the company’s official reaction to the incident have been unsuccessful.
A management staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the company would issue a statement on the incident.
